ANZAC DAY FURORE

This ANZAC Day, a number of Facebook pages spread a false rumour that Dr Anne Aly MP “refused” to lay a wreath at a local ANZAC Day service. These rumours where shared by hundreds of followers of “Kim Vuga Love Australia or Leave Party” and “Fair Suck Of The Sav, Mate” on Facebook.

Dr Aly faced a flood of accusations on social media where she was labelled “disrespectful”, a “liar”, a “bitch” and more.

These accusations were false, as Dr Aly attended the Ballajura RSL dawn service where she gave a speech and laid a wreath.

Apologies were sent to the Wanneroo RSL dawn service where Sabine Winton MLA represented her, as Dr Aly could not attend both services at the same time.

“The real shame here is that our national day of reflection – where we pay tribute to the selfless men and women who gave their lives for our freedom – was so disrespected by people who wanted to score political points.

“I have a strong relationship with the RSL, as an honorary member of the Highgate Sub-Branch.

“As a counter-terrorism expert, I work a lot with victims of terror and with first responders, with people who have sacrificed. I have a lot of respect for our service men and women.

“The City of Wanneroo and the Wanneroo RSL put on an extraordinary dawn service to unite our community and reflect on the sacrifices of others. I won’t stand for people using it to divide us.”
