Supporting multicultural communities in Cowan

The Albanese Government is ensuring migrant and multicultural communities in Cowan have the best opportunities to succeed with $150,000 to support community organisations.

Edmund Rice Centre and Ishar will receive $50,000 and $100,000 respectively, supporting deeper integration of multicultural communities and strengthening their sense of belonging and participation in the local community.

Member for Cowan Dr Anne Aly congratulated the recipients on their continued and tireless work supporting local multicultural communities.

“Cowan is home to a diverse population, and community organisations such as Edmund Rice Centre and Ishar have a significant positive impact in people's lives,” Dr Aly said.

“I’m proud to represent such a diverse community and look forward to seeing the exciting projects this funding will deliver."

Business Development Manager at Ishar Chloe Trompetter said the organisation has been dedicated to empowering women for 30 years, working with over 2500 women from more than 80 different nationalities.

“The women we support are among the most vulnerable and socially isolated members of our community,” Ms Trompetter said.

“This funding will help us provide a vital service that will improve their sense of community, as well as their mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing.”

The funding has been made possible thanks to the Australian Governments $5.6 million Fostering Integration Grants program, providing support to 83 projects across Australia.

The program supports grassroots, local organisations to continue their vital work in facilitating participation, integration and social cohesion of both recently arrived migrants and multicultural communities.
