WESTERN AUSTRALIA’S NORTHERN SUBURBS SUFFER UNDER COALITION

Yesterday, the West Australian reported on the desperate situation for people in Perth’s northern suburbs.

According to The West, the tide has gone out on many workers in WA. One in three West Australians is suffering from mortgage stress, concentrated in outer suburban electorates like Cowan.

Residents in Perth’s north-western suburbs are waiting on average 22.5 weeks for a job, and in the north-east jobseekers are waiting 25.9 weeks, the longest job queues in the State.

Looking for work is also more difficult, with search times having more than tripled over the past six years, of the Liberal-National government.

Dr Aly, who committed to fighting for the outer suburbs in her maiden speech, says this is not good enough.

“The Liberals take the northern suburbs for granted. I have a vision for Cowan and our community.

I am committed to making our local area more liveable – with stable, sustainable jobs provided locally in growing industries.

Scott Morrison needs to stop saying he’s thinking about action and start making decisions to help people. For Cowan, that means investing in our outer suburbs and committing to higher wage growth and raising Newstart.”
